History & Mission
The Hiawatha Community Foundation (HCF) was founded in 2020 by a dedicated group of community members who came together to explore how they could better support local organizations. Recognizing the value of partnership, they chose to become an affiliate of the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation—an important step that laid the groundwork for what would become a powerful force for good in Hiawatha.
In our first fundraising year in 2021, HCF launched with 23 funds and raised more than $222,000. Just three years later, that number had grown to 43 funds with over $360,000 raised. Now in our fifth year, we are proud to support 49 funds and are on track to surpass $1 million in total contributions by the end of 2025—a tremendous milestone for a small but mighty community like Hiawatha.
This progress reflects the generosity and commitment of the people in and around our community. Year after year, HCF helps local organizations expand their reach and deepen their impact by connecting fundholders, donors, and neighbors through a shared spirit of giving.
